What if the Sea Came Into the Land and Covered the Whole City

What if the  Sea Came Into the Land and Drowned  the Whole City?

Having lived in a coastal city 50% of my life, Monsoons every year was very chaotic but amusing. Checking out the rising waves and the muddy sea water at the Marine Drive was a Talking point. Sea waves would lash out at the road which would soon resemble a pond. It was a yearly event for the Evening Tabloid to carry pictures of the turbulent and frightening sea to show the wrath of the Rains.

Each year it was the same story with the City's drainage systems were never cleaned up and during torrential rains, the drains would be choked and the roads would be  full of knee high water. Due to which the City's public transport system like Local Trains and Buses would grind to a halt and people were compelled to stay at home.

So is it possible that huge waves splash across the city and swallow it? History is proof of such calamities. Thousands of years ago, the City of Dwarka was dragged into the sea and some people claim that, even today, it lies on the sea bed. When I visited Venice, our guide mentioned that Venice has been sinking. Twenty years ago, we witnessed the Tsunami when the land disappeared under the sea forever.

How long would it take for the sea to drown the city?   In such times the Internet and the phone lines are the first to die out.  Communication with friends and family, watching news channels for information would be impossible. This means that we have no information if we are going to be saved or not. If we are saved do we collect our land papers? money? passports? our valuables?

Would apartments crumble taking the people down with them? Would we be buried under the debris or would we land safely on the top of it, watching destruction all around. Sea water rising higher and higher and travelling to the streets where we once travelled, taking along with them uprooted trees, light poles, shop boards, hoardings and whatever that can be pulled away. Pictures run through my mind.

After a world wide pandemic the most impossible seems to be possible!
